Tsalea had said her farewells in the transporter room at the Academy, still giving her friends a slight glare for their previous prank of dousing her in ice water the week before. It wasn't that she was upset with them in the least; she was just trying to figure out how to get them back for it now. It was an interesting thing as she wasn't sure when next she would see any of them. Even with that in mind she was practically bursting with excitement at finally getting to so to her assignment. She had put in her time and it had paid off for her. That didn't mean she could relax, though. Quite to the contrary, she would now have to work that much harder, but it was work she looked forward to.
Finally she stepped up to the platform, a small bag over one shoulder, and her case of engineering tools in the other. She had insisted on taking her own tools with her a she was most familiar with the way they were calibrated and was of the belief that every good engineer should be at one with the tools of their trade.
Giving one last nod to her friends, followed by an eye roll at them giving her the Vulcan farewell, she instead stuck her tongue out at them in a very juvenile fashion and just before giving the command to energize, acquiesced and returned the gesture. Placing her hand back down to her side she turned to the man at the controls and inclined her head to him. "I am ready. Energize."
This suddenly reminded her of why she wasn't so fond of transporting. Made her stomach feel funny. She shook it off as soon as she was solid again aboard the Enterprise. Making a slight scrunching of her face, she moved to step down, smoothing out her uniform and tucking a stray strand of hair behind one of her pointed ears. “I suppose I need to get used to that. Don’t think it says anywhere that I have to like it, though.”
Finally she looked up to see who was there and stood up straighter to greet them, as it was likely the last person she had wanted to make such an impression with. Commander Spock. Internal ‘Dammit!’. “Ensign Tsalea reporting for duty assignment, Sir!” Great. Why couldn’t she get a welcoming party with a sense of humor? Leave it to her to start off on a bit of an odd note.

Spock was informed of the new incomer to the U.S.S Enterprise. Seeing as how most others were pretty busy at the moment, Spock decided to take the time and introduce the new comer and show them their station. He figured Kirk could hand the bridge for a few minutes on his own. Spock moved through the ship confidently, giving a nod to those who noticed him with their own nod.
Making it to the elevator and moving towards the Transporter, he thought to himself as to what the new crew member was capable of doing. Let alone the person itself. His curiosity got to him, but only a little. That same curiosity never showed to his face, as always with ever other emotion. His dark eyes peeked around a corner as did the rest of his body, the doors hushed open quickly, allowing Spock access to the room. His eyes met with the two teleportsmen, both working quite hard in bringing the newest crew member to the ship.
His head held high, his eyes watched the lights before them as a figure began to form before the crew members. Spock, of course, remained emotionless. His hands held eachother behind his back as he watched. Giving him a bit of a taller figure. Not that he was already tall enough. The figure that soon finished in the teleporter was that of a woman. Spock was mildly surprised by this. Seemed they would soon have an equal amount of Female crew members as there were Male.
The lights dimmed and the controllers nodded with approval, giving the girl a heads up that she could get off the pad. Spock gave a small, but slightly welcoming smile to the newcomer. "Welcome to the U.S.S Enterprise, Ensign Tsalea." His tone was calm and soothing as he offered a small nod to her. "What rank are you assigned to an I shall show you to your station." He informed with a solid nod and took a step back towards the door. That calm expression now played on his face. There was something interesting about this girl. She did not seem Human. Maybe it was with her pointy ears. Awfully hard to miss...Especially by Spock's standards. Spock made no comment on them or the fact she was most likely another Vulcan. It was nice to see another one of his species on the U.S.S Enterprise.

The first thing she noted about Spock was that he was taller than her by several inches. At least three it seemed. Why she noted that first, she'd never really understand, but she did. Secondly was the mellow expression. That had been unexpected. The way some of his students back at the Academy had talked was that he was a hardass. At first impression he didn't really seem to be. Taking that into account, she let herself relax a bit and returned his nod and smile. It wasn't much, but for a Vulcan it was more than enough.
She fell into step with him easily. "Thank you, Commander. I'm an engineer, specializing in warp core mechanics." Popping open her bag, she fished out a data pad and handed it over to him. "My records from the Academy, Sir. As well as the recommendations from my Professors. I am honored to serve aboard the Enterprise." She readjusted the shoulder strap of her bag after closing it back up. "I have heard great things about your Chief Engineer Montgomery Scott and look forward to working with him."
She fell silent as they entered the corridor, instead taking time now to observe her surroundings. Dark brown eyes alert and taking in every detail about the ship she had put so much into gaining an assignment aboard. It utterly fascinated her. It wasn't anything like what she had expected. Instead it was far more. The thought that she would be one of the crew who kept such a magnificent ship running awed her in that moment. This was truly the career opportunity she had always been waiting for.
Catching herself before she stopped at an interface, she turned back to her guide with an almost sheepish look. Distractions, Tsalea. Mind the distractions. She chided herself silently as they walked.

Spock nodded to Tsesla as she spoke up. Seems we had another engineer aboard the U.S.S Enterprise. Wonderful. "An engineer. Your work area is not far from here." With a woosh of the door, Spock walked through and let Tsesla move by as well. Walking swiftly he moved past the other crew members and every so often looked back to Tsesla making sure she was right behind him and right on track. "Ah yes, Scotty. He's an interesting human. I'm sure you will get along well with him." He informed calmly as he continued moving.
"You will be working amongst other engineers, those including Scotty along the mix. I'm sure you will do fine. Captain Kirk will meet with you when he is ready. At times he can be a busy person." Spock informed about the crew and captain. After a little more walking and one elevator ride, they made it to the mechanics floor. It was pretty wide. perfect for anyone that loved the smell of hard work. Spock once considered looking into the department of Mechanics, but he was more focused on the sciences that were needed to be looked at and discovered in the process. Thus he wore blue.
He looked back to Tsesla and gave a small grin. barely anything actually. But it seemed this girl had a bit of spunk in her, especially for a Vulcan. Look ahead then stopping in place, he turned his body fully to the girl and nodded his head towards the area where the mechanics would officially meet and greet. "Here is where you will met the rest of your crew members among this field. You will be shown to your corridor and rooming soon, but for now, allow another fellow mechanic show you around. I am of the science division." He explained casually. "I believe you will be better off moving through this work space with one of the mechanics around here." He informed after a brief look around then looked back to her. "I'm sure you will do fine." he noted. And it was true,. he felt she'd know what to do and all. Yes she had some distractions along the way, but it was all good. She needed to know every nook and cranny of the ship and what not. Spock was in a very tolerant mood today and it was almost as if nothing would really take him off the edge at the time. He looked to Tsesla and waited for a response.

She had paid close attention as he spoke, giving him her undivided attention. Well as best as she could, seeing as how there was so much she wanted to stop and investigate. She had to keep telling herself that she would have plenty of time for that once she had been given the proper tour. She gave a soft chuckle at his assessment of Scotty. In truth it was the entire engineering department she was excited to meet. That was something she missed, being around engineers of her caliber, and she had heard many good things about those aboard the Enterprise.
Stepping into the lift with him she gave a slight nod at being informed Captain Kirk would meet with her on his own time. She expected no less from a Captain. He had many duties to attend to and stopping them just to greet a single engineer was not exactly logical. Their paths would cross when they did and not before. Once they stepped out into her new second home she couldn't help the soft sound of contentment and awe that left her. This was what she had been working towards.
She took a small step forward out into the engineering section of the ship. Catching the small grin from him she returned it full force. Her exuberance was difficult to miss and she had to really rein herself in not to just wander off over to a panel and lose herself. Spock turning fully towards her caught her attention and she resumed listening to him even though now it was much more difficult.
Nodding politely she agreed that a mechanic would be a better suited guide around the engine rooms. A science officer? Ah, right she had heard that. She gave him a small smile at his assurance that she would do fine. Of course she would. This was her forte. Her parents had told her it was what he was born for after seeing her aptitude with it.
"Thank you, I am sure I will do well here. My parents were scientists as well aboard the Renaissance. My father is Doctor Selmarestral, most noted for his work in microbiology and my mother is Doctor T'Mandlin, a geologist and mineral synthesis specialist. They had always hoped I would follow in their footsteps as any parent does, but my heart is here. Engineering. I hope you can excuse my exuberance; my parents never reprimanded me for it. They are very liberal thinkers." She looked back out over her new workspace. "Perhaps we could meet up for lunch sometime. It would be nice to speak with another Vulcan who doesn't look at me as though I have grown a second head most of the time." She added dryly.

"Ah, the Renaissance. I've heard of that ship's great . You must be very proud of your parents." Spock noted calmly as the girl informed Spock of her parents and of them being in the sciences division. The Sciences division was in fact the most interesting to Spock. It always seemed like there was a challenge at every corner and he was willing to stop and solve each and every one. Just thinking about it seemed almost fun to Spock. He chuckled mentally to himself and looked back to Tsalea. It looked like she would make an excellent addition to the crew. Spock stood by her with his hands held behind his back, keeping him at a stand straight. He held his stare towards her and nodded. "If it is what you enjoy to do, then do so. it'll show that you will do your best in it." He informed as Tsalea calmly. Seemed she was different among other Vulcan. She seemed to have.. a personality of some sort. It was quite different for Spock...but he really did not mind. He tilted his head ever so slightly as she mentioned having a bit of a meal together sometime. He nodded. "Affirmative. I accept your offer. When settled and given the chance to get started, inform me as to when you'd wish to do this little...meeting." Spock nodded and moved past the girl. "Now if you'll excuse me, i must get back to the bridge." He gave her a small bow and moved out of the Mechanics area.

At his acceptance of her offer she inclined her head and gave him a slight smile. She did indeed have a personality and it was due to a good many more factors than just her parents. She always knew she'd never be respected as much as a full-blooded Vulcan was and that was a very raw spot with her. Even though now she was a member of a very limited race, there would always be that slight prejudice that came from her father being half human. She bled just as green as the next Vulcan and was on par with their physical capabilities, but that was ever to be seen as 'stepping above her disadvantage'. It was why her father had chosen to study at Oxford as opposed to the Vulcan Science Academy. He then joined Starfleet where he met Tsalea's mother. It was all history from there as far as she was concerned.
When he made to take his leave, she stood at attention and gave him a small salute. "Of course, Commander. May the rest of your day pass quickly and pleasantly." Once he was gone, she relaxed and turned around to find a very patient Engineer standing there, watching her. The young man gave her a wide grin.
"I didn't want to interrupt. The name's Lieutenant Michaels, I'll be taking you through the deck and then showing you to your quarters. You'll also need to check in at sickbay with your medical records and get a pre-duty physical." He laughed as she made a slightly annoyed expression. "I don't like the either. Once you're cleared and in uniform I see no reason why you can't get straight to work. Mr. Scott didn't tell me different. If you'll follow me we can get started.....Ensign..."
"Tsalea." She nodded to him in greeting and motioned for him to lead the way, she was excited to get started, but the thought of visiting sickbay was a less than appealing one. She had hoped only her medical records would need to be dropped off. No such luck. "So what will my duty rotations be?"
"Let me see. You’re a propulsion specialist, right?" She nodded to him and paused at one of the terminals to actually allow herself to look over the engine schematics. "I think we'll have you on second rotation for now, unless Mr. Scott decides differently."
"That is perfectly acceptable, please don't let me stop you, I am ready to get to work as soon as possible."
Lt. Michaels nodded and proceeded with the tour before showing her to her quarters. It was set up for basic comfort and quite passable in her opinion as she would be spending most of her time in Engineering anyhow. She set to unpacking the small bag she had brought with her. There were only a few small personal items and a couple sets of off-duty clothes. It didn't take long and soon she was on her way to sickbay, data module in hand to submit to her pre-duty physical.
{Tsalea out. Thread complete.}
