Affiliation: Star Fleet
Personality: A cantankerous young man. McCoy has an odd love hate attitude having a great compassion for life and all living things, while never wasting a moment to complain or look towards the negative. He is unafraid to voice his opinion to anyone he thinks needs to hear it.
Species: Human
Physical Description:
Division:Medical
Rank:Chief Medical Officer
Ship: USS Enterprise
History:Leonard McCoy was born in old south region of Earth’s North American continent. At eighteen McCoy began his study of medicine at the University of Mississippi. He quickly took to the head of his class showing a great aptitude for anatomical and forensic pathology as well as understanding of all medical practices, psychology and talented surgical hands. He was also noted as something of a practical joker among his classmates.
It was around this time that he met the young woman who would become his wife. After earning his medical degree Doctor McCoy took over the care of his father David McCoy who had been stricken with an incurable disease. Despite his medical training there was little he could do but watch his father suffer. When David begged his son to end his suffering a heavy hearted Leonard saw no choice but to honor his father’s request assisting in his death. Making the event even more tragic, a cure for the illness was found only a few months later.
This trauma was the final nail in his short marriage that had been strained over McCoy stern dedication to his medical practice. His wife divorced Leonard earning custody of their daughter Joanna and possession of everything the two jointly owned. With nowhere to go and having nothing left to his name but his very bones McCoy felt he had no option but to enlist in Star Fleet even thought he had been a diagnosised aviaphobic.
On the shuttle craft to Star Fleet academy McCoy met his fellow classmate James T. Kirk. The two would form an ongoing friendship over their three years of training. Though McCoy thought Kirk was often reckless and foolish he also saw in his young friend great bravery and self determination. McCoy took it upon himself to try and be Kirk’s voice of reason while also trying to have his back the best he could.
When Kirk was put on suspension for accusations of cheating on the Kobayashi Maru test an alert came out to Star Fleet forcing all cadets into active posts. McCoy was assigned as a medical officer aboard the star ship Enterprise. Seeing his friend left behind during this call of duty McCoy decided to help at least get Kirk aboard a star ship by injecting him with virus.
On the ship McCoy cured Kirk despite allergic complications. The doctor was witness as Kirk unraveled the mystery about the attack on Vulcan and alerted Captain Pike in time to keep the Enterprise from falling to the same fate as the rest of the fleet.
Soon after this Doctor Puri died in the ships battle with the romulan vessel. This left Doctor McCoy reluctantly as the acting chief medical officer of the Enterprise. He took over the medical facilities helping as many of the ships injured as he could.
This kept him from actting when Kirk confronted then acting captain Spock over their course of action resulting in Kirk being removed from the ship. Given the chance he openly criticized Spock for his decision even insulting the green-blooded hobgoblin.
When Kirk managed to return to the ship and prove Spock emotionally unfit to command he took over as captain. While he backed his friend’s taking command officially he still was still vocally incredulous of the acting captain.
After the Nero incident the Enterprise crew was reorganized and Doctor McCoy was officially assigned as Chief medical officer.
Sample Post:
“Clear!” McCoy shouted before pressing the button connected to the defibrillator on the chest of the man lying in his medical bed. The man’s body jumped up from the electrical impulse. Less than a second later monitors around him picked up a small blip of a heart beat. Nurses swarmed around the bed to try to keep that pulse going.
A woman’s scream came from behind them causing McCoy to look back at the bed where the woman giving birth was being tended to by another group of nurses. “You’re doing fine! Just keep breathing.” McCoy called back to her. He glanced over at the Denobulan woman working next to him. “How is she doing?
“She’s doing fine sir.”
“Good.” Leonard said as he turned his attention back to the critically injured man in front of him. The entire room suddenly shook violently causing everyone to shift and move. “Can they keep this thing steady for one blasted minute!”
Suddenly the monitors began the distinct cry of a flat line.
“We’re losing him.” The nurse called out.
Bones did not answer instead he set up the defibrillator to go once more. “Clear!” He shouted activating it again. Again the man’s body jump but this time he did not get a pulse. McCoy repeated the action again, and again, and again. It had no effect and soon the sensors showed all of the man’s brain functions were ceased.
Doctor McCoy did not even have a chance to announce the man’s death as the room shook once more. The screams of the woman on the other side of the room caught his attention. The Doctor moved over to the woman’s bed table. Looking at her he saw the baby about to come out.
Attention all hands abandon ship, Repeat all hands abandon ship.
The computer voice rang out through the room as the lights turned red. Looking around at his staff McCoy quickly took command of them. “What are you waiting around for? Start getting these people out of here!”
The medical staff quickly sprang to action to get all the patients in sick bay out of there. One of the nurses started to move the bed with the pregnant woman. “Not this one.”
“Sir?”
“She’s too far along, if we try to move her now we could lose both her and the baby.”
“But sir?”
“I’m not planning on any more death’s today now let’s deliver this child and get them both out of here.” McCoy instructed as he kneeled down to help in guiding the baby out. It took precious seconds and the sick bay had been completely evacuated except the group around the pregnant woman. But the baby was delivered into McCoy’s arms safe and healthy.
Doctor McCoy handed the baby over to the mother himself as the room shook once more. “Ok let’s get her out of here.” Quickly the nurses did just that pulling the woman, her child and the medical bed out of the room.
Suddenly the computer station exploded behind McCoy sending the young doctor forward and hitting the floor. Once the sparks of the explosions died down the lights came back to normal. The alarms and warnings that had been going off ceased. The door opened and Doctor McCoy’s academy instructor stood with his evaluation of McCoy simulation performance ready.
“I hate these tests.” McCoy mumbled to himself on the floor.
